Events celebrate 100th anniversary of elk restoration in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has put together a slate of special activities in the Pennsylvania elk range this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of efforts to restore elk to Pennsylvania.

Friday, Oct. 4 – Visit with Game Commission staff members at the elk viewing areas; 3-7 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5 – Join Game Commission Deputy Wildlife Conservation Officer, Phil Andraychack to learn about blue birds at Dents Run Elk Viewing Area; 3 p.m. Bluebird nest box kits will be available to attendees.

Sunday, Oct. 6 – Driving Tour on State Game Lands 321, 4 p.m.-dusk. Participants will drive their own vehicle following Game Commission officers on a dirt-road tour through elk habitat in hopes of seeing or hearing elk bugling. Meet at the State Game Land gate at the end of New Garden Road (N 41.181132, W -78.01090900). Contact the Game Commission Northcentral Region Office for more information, 570-398-4744.

Friday, Oct. 11 – Visit with Game Commission staff members at the elk viewing areas; 3-7 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 12 – Van Wagner presents an interactive musical program celebrating the 100th anniversary of elk restoration in Pennsylvania at the Dents Run viewing area pavilion, 1 p.m. Attendees will have a chance to win a $25 Woolrich gift card.

Sunday, Oct. 13 – Driving Tour on State Game Lands 311 with several learning stations; 10 a.m.-2:30p.m. Start at the State Game Lands gate at the end of Dewey Road on Winslow Hill. Follow signs to see State Game Lands habitat work and meet Game Commission land managers, conservation officers, biologists and foresters.
